ISLAMABAD: President Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) Prof Dr Shabir Lehri Tuesday expressed serious concerns over admitting the students in medical and dental colleges prior to the time frame announced by the council.

In a statement, he said that the council in its 156th session meeting unanimously decided that no medical and dental college can work in violation with the law and the council will not tolerate any violation of the rules and regulations and set criteria of PMDC.

He said that it was discussed that majority of private medical and dental colleges have advertised in the newspapers and admitted students before October 31st and before completion of admission process of public medical and dental colleges in violation of rules.

He added that on repeated requests for fee hike of private medical and dental colleges up to Rs 13, 00,000 the council after several meetings had sent recommendation to the Ministry of National Health Services for fee increase up to Rs 8, 00,000 in private medical and dental colleges but the council after taking notice of the private medical colleges decided to cancel the recommendations of fee hike.

Now as per admission policy 2016 the fee of medical dental college will be 6,42,000 only, he added.

He said that PMDC has always tried to safeguard the interest of all the public and private institutions but any institution that violates the rules and criteria of PMDC will be dealt with strict penal action.

President PMDC said that PMDC is the supreme regulatory body for the medical and dental education and any advertisement published from any unauthorized group or individual will be ignored.

He advised all students, their parents and institutions to strictly follow the centralized provincial or regional admission or entry test policy described in SRO and other decisions of the council.

He cautioned that any admission taken or granted against these regulations will be considered as violation of PMDC rules and will not be registered by affiliating university and PMDC.

The violating institution will be penalized under the Ordinance 1962. He said that the tuition fee will be the same as mentioned in these regulations.
