Blue whale spotted in Karachi waters

KARACHI: This is not the blue whale challenge that we’re referring to. Rather in a rare development, a giant mother blue whale and her calf were spotted near Churna Island off the coast of Karachi.

According to media reports, Saeed Zaman, the WWF-trained skipper was the one who spotted the blue whale and her baby calf while fishing for tuna. As per Zaman, the blue whale was almost 17 meters in length.

This is the first time that a blue whale has been sighted in Pakistani waters since the total population of the species is estimated to be around 10,000-25,000 around the world.

Blue whales give birth once every three to four years and is considered to be the largest animal that ever existed on this planet.
