Saudi embassy denies banning transgenders for Umrah

November 24, 2016

ISLAMABAD: Saudi embassy in Islamabad has dismissed claims that a ban was imposed on transgenders from performing Umrah.

“There is no truth in reports that Saudi Arabia has barred transgenders from going to the holy land for pilgrimage,” a clarification by the embassy said.

Earlier, media reports claimed that  the Saudi authorities had refused to grant visas to the transgenders willing to visit the holy land from across the world.

Reports said Saudi Consul Generals in different countries, including Pakistan, have issued a notification, advising travel companies not to submit visa applications of transgender persons. – SAMAA
