ISLAMABAD: Sindh government in collaboration with World Health Organization have been achieved 90 percent targets in the 12 days measles eradication campaign in Sindh.

Talking to a private news channel, Sindh Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed has said that the present rate of routine immunization was 29 percent, which caused pandemic to break out especially among young children.

In order to put a check on that spread of certain diseases in form of pandemic, it required immediate onward legislation to make the immunization against fatal diseases as mandatory, he added.

Dr Sagheer said that measles was prevailing across Pakistan and as far as the situation in Sindh was concerned, Sindh government had taken drastic measures to control measles outbreak in the country for which it deserved a due applause and other provinces should also commence similar programmes for the prevention and eradication of measles outbreak.

He also laude role of UNICEF, WHO and GAVA for prevention and eradication of such disease and urged that extended programmes for public awareness should be kicked off so that lives and future of children could be protected.

New legislation to first control and then eradicate fatal diseases was unavoidable without which efforts would stand as fruitless, he added. (APP)
