WhatsApp is doubling its efforts to fight fake news and this time has set its sights on visual misinformation.

The Facebook-owned messaging service is testing a new feature that helps users verify whether or not an image is real.

It is currently testing a new “search image” feature that allows users to easily upload an image found on its platform to Google, according to WABetaInfo. The image tool was discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android.

Users can long press on an image and select the ‘search image’ option. They will then be able to do a Google search of the image and find out more details about it.

With this feature, WhatsApp is trying to curb the spread of fake news on its platform.

The new WhatsApp update is available for beta users only. Features on beta do not necessarily confirm an official release. WhatsApp regularly tests different features and changes on its beta apps for Android and iOS.
