The New York City Police Department has been using a pattern recognition system to solve crimes.
The system, called Patternizr, helps officers search through “hundreds of thousands” of case files, reported The Washington Post.
The software saves the officers time as they no longer have to manually go through each and every file.
The system searches through the NYPD’s database for patterns and allows detectives to search from a much wider pool of data during an investigation.
The NYPD says the department rolled out the software in 2016, but first revealed its existence in an issue of INFORMS Journal on Applied Analytics, according to The Verge.
