At Apple’s first big event of 2019, the company has announced a premium game subscription for its app store.
Apple Arcade will let Apple users play games on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV devices.
More than one billion people have downloaded games from the app store, and there are more than 300,000 games available on it. Apple is aiming to curate some of these games into its Apple Arcade subscription service. Players will get more than 100 games on the service, and it will be available in more than 150 countries.
“With a single subscription you’ll get access to over 100 new and exclusive games,” Ann Thai, senior product manager for the App Store, said during an event at Apple’s Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. “You won’t find these games on any other mobile platform or any other subscription service.”
These games won’t be available on any other mobile platform or any subscription service other than Apple Arcade. Games will be downloaded and played straight from the App Store, and subscribers will be able to try games whenever they want and resume them across devices.
All of the game features, content, and future updates will be included, and there will be no ads shown within the games.
Exclusive games made by well-known studios and developers from around the world, including Annapurna Interactive, Cartoon Network, Konami, Lego, Sega, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Ken Wong, and Will Wright will also be available.
“These developers are some of the greatest storytellers and artists in the world,” Thai said. “They’re creating games that have never been possible before.”
The paid iPhone and iPad games can be played by the consumers for a monthly fee. The service is coming this fall and the company still have to share how much it’s going to cost.
