Social media website Facebook introduced Instagram Lite, which is a stripped-down version of the social photo-sharing application.

CNBC reported that the mobile phone application targets emerging markets that are mostly dominated by lower cost Android devices. The lite versions of the mobile applications are being introduced as users in the countries have limited data plans.

It appeared on the Google Play Store for Android smartphones and its size is just 574 kilobytes.

The mobile phone application allows you to upload images and create and view stories that disappear after 24 hours.

The users of Instagram Lite cannot message friends or share videos. However, the features of sharing video clips and messaging friends have been advertised on the play store.

A spokesperson said that the latest version of the photo sharing application for Android is being tested and it uses less data, less space and works at a faster speed.

Facebook had launched a ‘Lite’ version of its application in 2015.
