Facebook-owned photo-sharing app Instagram crashed Monday night, leaving users perturbed on social media.
Last night, the site and app wouldn’t load – though stories would – leaving people’s feeds filled with old images. Attempts to refresh the feed just lead to the error message, which said that it can’t refresh.
Instagram stories seemed to be working fine, suggesting that the problem was more to do with refreshing the newsfeed.
The app is owned by Facebook and tends to be relatively stable. But it is used by 700 million people – including the world’s biggest media organisations and other companies – meaning that any outage tends to cause ripples across the entire internet.
Here is how some users responded:

So #Instagram is down again, probably doing updates to further steal Snapchat concepts! #instagramdown

Twitter is the first social media app I use to confirm the breakdown of other social media apps. #instagramdown
