England’s limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan has said that he would be taken aback if the International Cricket Council (ICC) decides to organise this year’s T20 World Cup according to schedule, ESPNcricinfo has reported.
“I’d be surprised if it goes ahead,” the left-handed batsman replied to a question on how he felt on the prospect of the tournament getting postponed due to the coronavirus. “My reasons for that would be if you look at how Australia handled the pandemic…they shut down the borders pretty early and have limited number of deaths and cases compared to the rest of the world.”
He went on to state that hosting 16 teams across eight venues can lead to the spreading of the virus.
The ICC is yet to make a decision whether to go ahead with the tournament this year or not. They have refuted speculation of the competition being delayed so far.
The 16-team competition begins on October 18 till November 15. Former champions Sri Lanka take on Ireland in the opening game in Geelong.
