Former Pakistan fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar said that he wished India’s batting sensation Virat Kohli played during his time, ESPNcricinfo has reported.
“Let’s talk about Virat Kohli,” the Rawalpindi Express said while speaking with cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar in a video chat. “We would have been the best of friends because we are both Punjabis and our nature is similar. He is younger than me and has a big heart. I respect him a lot.”
Akhtar, creating a scenario as to how he would get under the talismanic Indian batsman’s skin, said that he would’ve told him that he cannot pull or cut me because he doesn’t have it in his arsenal. “He does play the shots but his timing would’ve been off given the speed of my bowling.”
The Rawalpindi Express went on to say that he would have made Kohli drive the ball swinging away from him. “He loves to drive and I would repeatedly test him with the same strategy with my speed.”
The former fast-bowler said that he would go up to the Indian batsman and say something to him repeatedly. “It would be great if I made him lose his focus but he tends to play well he is being challenged by the opposition. I would do what England’s James Anderson did with him.”
