Pakistani cricketer Imam-ul-Haq has issued an apology to Shane Watson over his dismissive attitude towards him in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 final.
Quetta Gladiators’ Watson was seen having a verbal spat with Peshawar Zalmi’s Imam after getting run out for nine in the final on Sunday. Television replays showed Imam telling Watson to head back to the pavilion while pointing towards the locker rooms.
“Yesterday’s incident happened in the heat of the moment,” Imam tweeted. “My reaction to Watson’s inappropriate abusive comments was avoidable, for which I apologise.”
He went on to state that the final was a good match and a great tournament.
“Let’s enjoy its success. Congrats to Gladiators and Watson for the trophy and awards,” he wrote.
Imam-ul-Haq came under severe criticism by the cricketing fans. Some of the supporters even called for a ban of the left-handed batsman as punishment.
