Carles Puyol is the latest international sportsman to travel to Pakistan. The Barcelona legend will be at the National Stadium of Karachi for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final on Sunday.
Puyol will be in Pakistan to kick off World Soccer Stars and its ticket sales.
“Karachi, I look forward to seeing you all and I am really excited to meet all my fans in Pakistan at the one and only PSL final. World Soccer Stars presents a great opportunity to celebrate the arrival of football and from what I know football is the next emerging sport in Pakistan,” said Puyol, who is regarded as one of the best defenders of his generation.
The 40-year-old will arrive in the country on March 16. His visit will involve fan engagement at Karachi’s Dolmen Mall (Clifton) among other activities such as launch and distribution of signed electronic products.
Puyol will be accompanied by the legendary duo of Kaka and Luis Figo in the exhibition clash. Both Kaka and Figo, in a video statement, congratulated the country on the return of cricket.
“After cricket, football is also coming back to Pakistan,” they said.
Ahmer Kunwar of TouchSky Group, the organisers of World Soccer Stars, said: “It’s a real privilege to see the bedrock of FC Barcelona defence in Pakistan.”
Puyol will kick off World Soccer Stars event on April 27 in Karachi and on April 28 in Lahore, Kunwar said.
