Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh and the West Indies beat South Africa

Sri Lanka and West Indies won their respective Women’s World Twenty20 matches in Gros Islet on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 25 runs. The Sri Lankan side made 97/7 in their 20 overs with Shashikala Siriwardene top scoring with 31 runs from 33 deliveries. She struck two boundaries and a six in her match-winning knock.

Dilani Manodara made 16 runs while skipper Chamari Atapattu and Nilakshi de Silva contributed 12 runs with the bat each.

Jahanara Alam was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh as she finished with three wickets.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 72 runs in 20 overs. Nigar Sultana made 20 runs from 41 balls with the help of two boundaries.

Ayasha Rahman made 11 runs for the team. Atapattu picked up three wickets for Sri Lanka while Udeshika Prabodhani and Shashikala Siriwardene took two wickets each.

Shashikala Siriwardene was named Player of the Match for her all-round performance.

Defending champions West Indies continued their dominant run as they trounced South Africa by 31 runs.

The hosts were restricted to 107/7 in their 20 overs with Kycia McLean from 32 runs with two boundaries and two sixes to her name.

Natasha McLean scored 28 runs for the side. Shabnam Ismail grabbed three wickets while skipper Dane van Niekerk took two wickets.

The Proteas were dismissed for 76 runs in 18.4 overs. Marizanne Kapp made 26 runs while Lizelle Lee scored 24 runs for the side.

Stefanie Taylor was the star bowler as she finished with the figures of 4/12 in 3.4 overs. Taylor was named Player of the Match for her bowling performance.
