Hayley Matthews scored 62 runs and picked up three wickets
Hayley Matthews struck a half century as West Indies beat Sri Lanka in their Women’s World Twenty20 2018 fixture in Gros Islet on Saturday.
The defending champions, batting first, scored 187/5 in their 20 overs as Matthews made 62 runs from 36 deliveries with eight fours and two sixes to her name.
Deandra Dottin and Stafanie Taylor contributed 49 and 41 runs with the bat respectively.
Udeshika Prabodhani, Oshadi Ranasinghe and Shashikala Siriwardene took a wicket each.
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 104 runs in 17.4 overs as Chamari Atapattu scored 44 runs with the help of seven boundaries.
Nilakshi de Silva contributed 11 runs with the bat whereas Hasini Perera made 10 runs for the team.
Matthews proved to be the stand out player with the ball as she took three wickets for the side. The all-rounder was named Player of the Match for her performance.
