Young footballers kick off Aik Awam Unity Cup in Karachi

The Aik Awam Unity Cup will be played for 11 days to pay commemorate the Defence Day of Pakistan and pay tribute to footballers

Football clubs from across Karachi are showcasing their talent in the first edition of the Aik Awam Unity Cup 2018.

The tournament is being organised by the Aik Awam Movement and Elaj Trust.

The Unity Cup is being played to commemorate Defence Day and provide a platform to encourage young talent in football. The tournament also pays tribute to the football legends of Pakistan, providing positive role models for our youth.

Teams registered under the Sindh Football Association are taking part in the competition, which will continue till September 16.

The matches are being played at the Gizri Playground and KMC Football Stadium. Half of each match is played for 35 minutes.

Seven matches were played on the opening day of the tournament. The Afghan Janbaz forfeited their match against the Young Tughlaq after raising objections over the organisers of the match.

Al-Wajid see off Sultanabad Union

Al-Wajid defeated the Sultanabad Union 3-0 at the Gizri Playground. Shehzad scored in the 55th minute while Asad and Irtiza added goals in the 58th and 61st minutes of the match respectively.

Light of Baloch come back to beat Karachi United

Light of Baloch secured a 3-2 win over Karachi United at the KMC Football Stadium.

Awais put United ahead by scoring in the 24th minute.

Zahid leveled the score for the Baloch side just before half time. He put the side ahead in the 40th minute of the match. Salman scored the third goal for the team in the 61st minute.

Afrasiyab managed to pull a goal back for Karachi United in the 63rd minute.

Young Prince humbled by Moosa Lashari

Moosa Lashari beat Young Prince 2-0 in a lopsided fixture at the KMC Football Stadium.

Ali Raza provided the breakthrough for the team in the sixth minute and the second goal was scored by Shakir Lashari.

National Fighters edge past Sindh Muslim

National Fighters took on Sindh Muslim at the Gizri Playground.

The match went to penalty kicks after the two sides could not score in the 70 minutes.

National Fighters picked up the win by 3-2 as Zahid, Sufyan and Sajjad beat the goal keeper.

Keamari Union brush aside Baloch Star Gizri

Keamari Union picked up a 2-0 win over Baloch Star Gizri in the third match at the Gizri Playground.

Nasir Khan provided the breakthrough for the side in the 22nd minute while Umair scored the second goal for the team in the 40th minute.

Gizri Brothers trounce Janbaaz Sports

A hat-trick by Qasim helped Gizri Brothers thrash Janbaaz Sports 4-0 in the fourth match of the day at the Gizri Playground.

Qasim scored the opening goals in the ninth minute of the game and Umair doubled the side’s lead in the 15th minute.

Qasim scored his second goal of the match in the 25th minute and completed his hat-trick in the 33rd minute.

Young Meeran defeat Banaras Memorial

Young Meeran edged past Banaras Memorial 5-4 on penalty kicks.
