Ten cricketers who died too young

Several international cricketers have their careers cut short due to injuries but there are some players who died at a young age. SAMAA Digital looks at several cricketers who passed away too soon.

  1. Phil Hughes

The 25-year old Australian batsman went into a coma after being hit by a bouncer and never regained consciousness. He passed away on November 27, 2014.

  1. Hansie Cronje

The South African captain was killed in an air crash on June 1, 2012. He was 32 years old.

The English all-rounder lost his life in a car accident at the age of 24 years on March 23, 2002 in Perth.

  1. Malcolm Marshall

The West Indies cricket legend passed away on November 4th, 1999 at the age of 41 years after being diagnosed with colon cancer.

  1. Runako Morton

The all-rounder from the West Indies was killed after he crashed his vehicle into a pole in Trinidad on March 4, 2012 at the age of 33 years.

  1. Raman Lamba

The Indian batsman died at a hospital after being hit on the temple by a cricket ball while fielding on February 23, 1998. He was 38 years old.

  1. Manjarul Islam Rana

The 22-year old Bangladeshi cricketer died in a motorcycle crash on March 16, 2007. The Bangladesh cricket team dedicated the first match of the 2007 Cricket World Cup to him.

The English domestic cricketer was electrocuted on a railway line and was hit by a London underground train in the early hours of June 18, 2012. He was 23 years old.
