The Pakistan team have agreed to take part in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia after the hockey federation’s president agreed to pay daily allowance to the players.
“The president of Pakistan Hockey Federation had agreed to resolve the dispute,” captain Rizwan Sr. said on Tuesday. “We have not been paid a single penny for the past six months”
“We should be given our rights.”
The hockey team’s captain added that the side had not boycotted the games and is still training for the event.
He continued that the federation does not get funds for major tournaments due to which the players suffer from psychological issues.
Rizwan continued, “Pakistan’s ranking is declining rapidly.”
Earlier, the Pakistan players had subjected their participation in the games to the release of their salaries.
PHF President Brigadier (retd) Muhammad Khalid Sajjad Khokhar had said that he will clear the dues of the players even if he had to sell his own belongings.
Pakistan has to perform well in the Asian Games if their participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is to be confirmed.
