Pakistan cricket team captain Sarfaraz Ahmed defended on Wednesday the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to not include wicket keeper batsman Kamran Akmal in the squad for the Zimbabwe tour.

Pakistan will play Twenty20 tri-series and a five-match ODI series in Zimbabwe next month.

While acknowledging that Akmal is performing well in the domestic circuit, Sarfaraz said the issue is not that there is no place for him in the team. “We have to look at the team combination,” he said.

He also backed the PCB's decision to pick Muhammad Hafeez. “The advantage of bringing Muhammad Hafeez into the team is that he can we can send him to bat in the upper order as Ahmed Shahzad is currently not available. Hafeez can even bowl off-spin, which would come in handy against Australia as four out of six of their top order batsmen are lefties,” the Pakistan team captain said.

He was talking to the media at the Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Responding to a question about chances of Akmal making a comeback to the national side, Sarfaraz said anyone can make a comeback in the Pakistan team.

Commenting on the upcoming Pakistan-Australia-Zimbabwe Twenty20 Tri series, Sarfaraz said that you can not take any team easily in Twenty20 , however, a tough fight is expected with Australia.
