LAHORE: The players of World XI team arrived at Allama Iqbal airport on Monday to join the mega cricket event in Pakistan that will start tomorrow (Tuesday)The 14-member team barring, West Indies Samuel Badree arrived in Pakistan on board a private flight EK622 from Dubai. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials including Chairman Najam Sethi welcomed the heroes at the airport.Chief Operating Officer, Subhan Ahmad,Director Domestic Cricket, Haroon Rasheed and Punjab Minister for Sports Jahangir Khanzada were also present at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.Chairman PCB personally greeted all the team members of the World XI for touring Pakistan.Samuel who played the final of the Carrabin Premier League will arriving Pakistan this (Monday) evening.Tight security with 6000 security personnel on duty was put in place at the airport for the international cricketing heroes. The cricket fans were not allowed to enter the airport premises over security woes.
The entire passage from the cricketers’ hotel to stadium will be monitored with surveillance cameras.It has been made mandatory for the spectators to possess national identity card in addition to tickets to enter the stadium.Earlier, the international cricketing heroes reached Dubai airport on Sunday night to fly for Lahore. In Dubai, they held practice sessions.The World XI will clash with Pakistan XI in three T20 matches of Independence Cup commonly known as Azadi Cup.The three-match Twenty20 series is beginning from September 12 at Qaddafi Stadium. The second and third matches will be played on September 13 and 15.Cricket buffs have been arranged parking at six different points around the stadium.The eight country star studded World XI is: Faf du Plessis,Captain, (South Africa),Hashim Amla (South Africa), Samuel Badree (Windies), George Bailey (Australia), Paul Collingwood (England), Ben Cutting (Australia), Grant Elliott (New Zealand), Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh),David Miller (South Africa), Morne Morkel (South Africa),Tim Paine (wicketkeeper).
