Mustafa Khan, who won the 51ST Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Seoul, South Korea last month, struggles to make both ends meet.
In an exclusive interview with SAMAA, the Men’s Masters Bodybuilding champion said that he had hoisted Pakistani flag in Seoul as a gift to the nation on the occasion of country’s 70th Independence Day.
The championship was held from August 20 – 26 in the South Korean capital.
“I had to borrow money from friends and family in order to generate funds needed to take part in the Asian championship,” he said.
“Although I have won the championship, I am unable to pay back the debt as I haven’t been given any financial reward by sports bodies or government officials,” he lamented.
“It’s a shame that a sportsman like me is being threatened for doing something positive for his country,” he said as he broke down in tears.
Mustafa further said that unlike cricketers, his achievement wasn’t recognized by the government.
