Giggs sees great football talent in Pakistan

KARACHI: Manchester United veteran footballer Ryan Giggs has said that Pakistan football will improve if the footballers in the country are given more chances to play like international football stars.

He said, “If these young and talented footballers are given a passageway and if they see the likes of me and Ronaldinho and want to be like us, then Pakistan’s football ranking will improve from 200 next year or the year after.”

Giggs said that there were many promising footballers in Pakistan despite the surging popularity of cricket in the country.

He was looking forward to play with the local talent. He said, “Looking forward to seeing the talent there in Pakistan.”

The footballer also said that he was a talented cricketer as well.

The Manchester United star star went on to say that he knows that his club has a huge fanbase in Pakistan and the supporters here are looking forward to see the star in action.

Eight international footballers including Brazilian stars Ronaldinho and Roberto Carlos, former French midfielder Robert Pires, France’s Nicolas Anelka, Portugal’s Luis Boa Morte, Holland’s George Boateng, England’s David James and former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs will play exhibition games in the country to promote the sport.

Ronaldinho will lead the team which will play two matches during its visit to Pakistan.

The first match will be played on Saturday at Hockey Club of Pakistan in Karachi and second on Sunday in Lahore.
