MUMBAI: Pakistan cricket team’s captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has an uncle in India who roots for his country whenever the traditional rivals clash in cricket. Here’s what Mehboob Hasan from Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, shared regarding his beloved nephew.
According to Mehboob Hasan, Sarfaraz Ahmed’s grandmother used to visit Pakistan frequently and was once quite worried about the Pakistani skipper when he was quite yet a child. His grandmother was worried about his passion and obsession for the sport of cricket.
“She often fretted about Sarfraz’s passion for cricket and would say he might end up hitting someone,” he recalled.
Hasan stated that despite only meeting with Sarfaraz for three times during his life, he shares a close bond with the wicket-keeper batsman.
As a 4-year-old boy, Sarfaraz visited Etawah with his mother on the occasion of Hasan’s marriage. In the same way, when Sarfaraz got married in 2015, Hasan and his family came to Karachi to attend the function.
Sarfaraz flew Hasan and his family to Lahore from Karachi to watch him play at Gaddafi stadium.
“He flew us from Karachi to Lahore for this match,” said Hasan with pride.
Mehboob is a senior clerk at Etawah Agriculture Engineering College who isn’t confused in the least sense as to which side to support when India and Pakistan play each other.
“Where is the pressure? He (Sarfraz) is playing for his team. My children and I always root for Team India,” he said.
