LAHORE: Star all-rounder Shahid Afridi admitted his team's "crappy" performance in the World Twenty20, saying that he had misread the Kolkata pitch.

Afridi made these remarks while recording his statement before a four-member inquiry committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) comprising Misbah ul Haq, Younus Khan, Subhan Ahmed and Shakil Sheikh.

When asked by the PCB's committee to rate his performance, Afridi gave him only three marks out of 10. "I admit that I failed to read the pitch in our match against India," Afrid said, an insider revealed.

The T20 skipper rejected reports that he had fielded four pacers against India at Imran Khan's advice.

Afridi also defended the dismal performance of Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad during the failed World Cup campaign.

Sources add that the PCB's committee would submit its report to Chairman Shaharyar Khan on Friday. - SAMAA
