Tamim’s clean strikes overpower United

SHARJAH: The blitzkrieg unleashed by Tamim Iqbal’s bat helped Peshawar Zalmi to sail through to seven wicket win in 13th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) against Islamabad United played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and opted to put Islamabad United in. Islamabad United managed to pile up 152/6 with contributions from four top-order batsmen.

The top scorer was Khalid Latif who, hitting his first fifty of the tournament, scored 59 runs off 41 runs.

Skipper Misbah ul Haq chipped in with 32 runs while openers Shane Watson and Sharjil Khan made 19 and 28 respectively.

For Zalmi, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Asghar took two wickets each, followed by Tait and Junaid Khan who bagged one wicket each.

Bangladesh’s Tamim opened Zalmi’s innings and smashed 80 off 58 balls with the help of six boundaries and three sixers.

He was conferred upon with Player of the Match award. His powerful and flawless innings turned the match into an easy walkover for the Zalmi. Nine balls were still to go when Tamim’s surgical strikes surmounted the target.

No other batsmen could shine as much except Muhammed Hafeez and Shahid Yousuf (not out) who stroked 25 and 27 runs respectively.

Islamabad’s Muhammed Sami, Saeed Ajmal and S. Badree took one wicket each. –SAMAA
