Islamabad United win first PSL crown

DUBAI: Islamabad United defeated Quetta Gladiators in the final match of first season of Pakistan Super League by 6 wickets in a packed Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Dwayne Smith made 73 runs off 51 balls hitting 7 fours and 4 sixes while BJ Haddin  scored 61 off 39 deliveries with 2 fours and 5 sixes to help United achieve 175-run target.

Combination of Anwar Ali, McCullum, Aizaz Cheema and Zulfiqar Babar, which took one wicket each, seemed helpless to stop the flow of runs as United achieved the target with eight ball remaining.

Put into bat after losing the toss, Quetta Gladiators set a respectable total of 175 with Ahmed Shehzad and Kumar Sangakkara smashing half-centuries.

Shehzad hit 39-ball 64 while Sangakkara made 55 from 32 balls with the help of seven 4s and two 6s to lift Gladiators to 174/7 in 20 overs.
