LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan said that Shahid Afridi was made the captain of Twenty20 side on the condition of his retirement after World Cup.

“Shahid Afridi himself told us that he would retire after the World Twenty20 in India. If he wants to continue playing, he should talk to me directly instead of issuing statements in media,” Khan said.

He, however, said that PCB could not force any player to announce retirement.

To a question, he said Indian batsman Virat Kohli opened our eyes as how to bat on these conditions. “I even forgot to hand over Kohli’s award while commending him for his batting against Pakistan,” he said.

Khan lamented that Pakistan’s performance hasn’t been satisfactory.

Responding to protests in India about Pakistan’s match at Dharamsala, he said that politics and sports should be kept apart.

“Our government has allowed the team to travel to India for the mega event. It is now BCCI’s responsibility to ensure the security,” he maintained. – SAMAA
