ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) said on Wednesday that it would not to send its wrestlers for the Pro Wrestling League, slated to be held in India next month.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) had approached the Pakistani wrestlers on the sidelines of the World Championships in Las Vegas recently for their participation in league.

Four Pakistani wrestlers, the Commonwealth Games gold medalist Azhar Hussain and Qamar Abbas, Muhammad Inam and Asad Butt were to take part in the inaugural edition of the private league.

But the PWF had asked them not to participate in the event as the political environment between the two nations was not conducive.

“We have decided not to send our wrestlers for any private league in India till the situation improves,” Secretary Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) Muhammad Arshad Sattar told APP.

“The respect of our country is more than anything else four us,” he said.

The event will see a total of six teams Mumbai, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Bangalore-with world’s top 66 wrestlers competing for the title. – APP
