ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada on Monday sought explanation from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan over his visit to Mumbai last month.

“Riaz Hussain Pirzada has taken serious notice of the issue of Chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan’s planned meeting with BCCI President in India which could not take place and ended up in disruption,” a letter sent to the PCB management says.

The minister has sought explanation from the PCB over the incident.

“The PCB management has been asked to clarify as to whether or not the Foreign Office was consulted beforehand. Whether a prior permission from Prime Minister (Patron in Chief of PCB) was taken or not,” it said.

In the backdrop of tensions between the two countries, such decisions should be taken only after due consultation with all stake holders, it added.

“Before such high level negotiations, the PCB management should have taken into account the Indian hostile environment and possible security threats.

“The ill-treatment of top PCB officials by the BCCI is utterly undesirable and has brought disgrace. It was the responsibility of BCCI to preempt a protest or any attempt of disruption.”

Khan had gone to Mumbai on the invitation of BCCI President Shashank Manohar last month. However, his scheduled visit was called off after a group of Shiv Sena workers stormed the BCCI office in Mumbai and chanted slogans against Khan and Pakistan. - NML
