Afridi to star in Best of Pak-India T20 Cricket match

PESHAWAR: All-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi will star as guest player in the Best of the Pakistan XI team against Best of Indian Team led by Danish Mongia in the Aziz Rehmat Ullah Memorial Cup-2015 to be played at Moosa Cricket Stadium, Houston, Texas.

This was stated by former Junior World Cup cricketer Jann Nisar Khan while talking to APP on phone on Sunday.

Currently playing in the USA Premier League Jann Nisar Khan, who was declared as “Most Valuable Player” of scoring 453 runs including four 50s and hit another unbeaten knock of 89 runs against Canadian Team besides as all rounder grabbed 19 wickets in just 10 matches.

Popularly known as Boom Boom Afridi, is currently the T20 captain, Jann Nisar said and hopefully his presence will attract great crowd. He is regarded as one of the greatest big-hitting cricketers of all time, where he has the longest six of any form of the game.

Indian cricketer Dinesh Mongia, who has appeared in ODIs for India, he said. Mongia is a heavy run-scorer in domestic cricket with just under 6850 runs at an average of just under 50 and his highest score being an unbeaten 308.

He made his ODI debut in 2001 against Australia without much success but in his fifth match, he scored his first half-century (71 off 75 balls) against England.

He said the family of late Pakistani origin US businessman Aziz Rehmat Ullah is sponsoring the match in his memory. He hoped the match will certainly attract great crowd because of the guest presence of Shahid Khan Afridi in the Best of Pakistan and Danish Mongia as part of the Best of Indian side.

Jann Nisar is leading the team as skipper of the Best of Pakistan team. Playing for the Smart choice USA Cricket League Team, Jann Nisar Khan lauded the efforts put in by the owner of Saki Muhammad, who constructed a beautiful Moosa Cricket Stadium in the heart of Houston, Texas, USA.

The stadium was constructed as per the requirements of ICC and was also recognized by it.

While paying tribute to Saki Muhammad, he said, work on the construction of two more Cricket Stadiums with multiple purposes is underway in Pearland area of Houston USA.

Jann Nisar Khan, who represented Pakistan in three Junior Under-15 World Cup and record holding run maker in the English Premier League where he played for 16 long years, said that all arrangement have been finalized for hosting the match in an appropriate manners.

About the team, he said, a camp is already in progress at the same venue under his supervision wherein players are tuned up for the key clash. He said  Samuel Plummer, a curator, hailing from West Indies, is working very hard on the pitch and overall lush green out field.

He also appreciated Saki Muhammad and Khalid Nabi for putting all efforts in making the match a great reality.

Jann Nisar played 23 matches and scored 768 runs by hitting six 50s including 56 boundaries and four sixes with a highest runs of 89 not out at an average of 45:18. He also outshined with the ball and grabbed 30 wickets with five wickets in three consecutive matches by bowling a total of 19 overs, giving 417 runs.

Looking after his performance, Jann Nisar Khan was announced as skipper of the Best of Pakistani team and Usman Rafik as his deputy.

The names of other team comprising Ahmad Butt (wicket-keeper), Adil Bhatti, Usman Shuja, Jawad Khalid, Majid Rizvi, Taha Syed, Darwish Ali, Saman Abbasi, Faraz Sheikh, Taha Syed, Kashif Haroon, Asim Pervaiz. While star Shahid Afridi will be part of the team as guest player.Mustafa Hemani is the manager of the team, Khalid Nazi as coach and Fawad Raza Khan as reserve player. – APP
