Not binding for Pakistan to arrest Hafiz Saeed

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that it is not binding on his country to arrest Mumbai 26/11 planner suspect Hafiz Saeed on the Interpol warrants.

During an interview to Arab News on Wednesday, Malik said that information provided by India on the Mumbai attacks was not sufficient. He was of the view that the attacks could have been prevented if India had shared intelligence information with Pakistan.

Malik disclosed that Interpol had issued arrest warrants for Hafiz Saeed. “But Pakistan is not bound [by them] to arrest him. Pakistan is independent and can hold an investigation against him and steps would be taken accordingly,” he added.

He suggested India to show confidence in Pakistan’s constitutional and judicial system and share information with Islamabad. SAMAA
