US Congressman supports plebiscite in Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: Republican Congressman Dan Burton has said that the people of Kashmir should be given the plebiscite that they were promised by the United Nations decades ago.
Expressing deep concern over the situation in Kashmir, Dan Burton, who
is the Ranking Member of House sub-committee on the Middle East and South Asia, said that Kashmir has been the cause of two wars between Pakistan and India, KMS reported.
Burton who was speaking at a Congressional hearing on “Building a
Strategic Partnership, US-India Relations in the wake of Mumbai attacks” said solving the Kashmir problem would eliminate human rights violations in Kashmir.
The Congressman said, “I personally believe that the people of Kashmir
should be given the plebiscite that they were promised by the United Nations decades ago”. He added, “regardless of the shape of the ultimate resolution, this situation be addressed and the sooner the better”.
