Pakistan team eager to do well in against SL: Inti

KARACHI: Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam while describing Pakistan squad a well balanced combination on Wednesday expressed his confidence of his team’s better showing in two test match series against Sri Lanka starting from Saturday.

“We had a wonderful short training camp in Steel Township where boys jelled well and now eager to do well in series, he told APP in an interview.

He said Younis Khan and his team was mentally and physical well prepared to take on the Sri Lanka. “Boys are fully motivated to play to their potential,” he said.

“What happened in ODI is history and they are looking to start afresh for the test series,” Intikhab remarked.

“Younis is a fighter to the core and whole team will be behind him in their bid to perform to their potential.

“I think selectors have picked the best available lot with several good options in opening, middle order and bowling department,” he maintained.

He said Salman Butt is an established opener with Khurram Manzoor and young Ahmed Shehzad while in the middle, Pakistan got Younis, Misbah, Shoaib Malik, Faisal Iqbal, Asim Kamal, Fawad Alam.

However there will be keen contest for one middle order spot between Faisal, Asim and Fawad.

Intikhab Alam believed that Pakistan can not afford the test match with five specialist bowlers.

He said Muhammad Talha is good prospect ahead of him and he can good company with experienced Umar Gul, Yasir Arafat and Sohail Khan.

He said Shoaib Malik is a good option as an off-spinner and can provide support to Danish Kaneria if needed.

Pakistan coach said Shahid Afridi was dropped because of lack of form and said he has the ability to stage a come back in the team and so was case of left arm seamer Sohail Tanvir.

He after four days hard training away from the city in privacy, Pakistan team to launch its training at National Stadium from tomorrow. -APP
