PESHAWAR: Top seeded Sara Mahboob took berth into
the semi-finals of the Chief of the Air Staff Khyber Open Cup Tennis
being played here at PAF Officer Mess Courts on Thursday.
In the first quarter-final Sara Mehboob defeated Laiba Khan in no
time by 6-0, 6-0 in a one-sided affair while Usna Sohail beat Nadia
Khan by 6-1 and 6-3 in the second quarter-finals.
Saba Aziz beat Zoya Khan in the third quarter-finals by 6-1 and
6-3 while in the fourth quarter-final Mehik Kukkar beat Faryal Asfar
by 6-0 and 6-0. Now Sara Mahboob will face Mehik Kukkar in the first
semi-final and Usna will face Saba Aziz in the second semi-finals to
be played on Friday.
Talking to APP, Sara Mahboob expressed her confidence of winning
the title. Sara said that she would expect tough fight against Usna
Sohail if she wins against Saba Aziz. Sara had blasted her way into a
5-0 leading in the first set and marched into victory by winning the
set 6-0 without losing any point. Laiba Khan tried hard to stop the
flow of the smashes of Sara but she could not do because of the
forceful approached by Sara.
“Her shots were too forceful and that is way I could not make
into,” Laiba informed. Laiba had a double fault and a way ward volley
but she did not manage her way against Saba.
In the Men's singles, Aqeel Khan beat Jalil Khan to move into
the final against Shehzad Khan in the grand final. Aqeel Khan did not
give much time to jalil to settle down in the whole proceedings. The
score was 6-0, 6-2. Shehzad Khan defeated Asim Shafique in a
thrilling battle. The score was 7-6 (6-6), 1-6 and 7-5 (6-6).
Zain and Waqar took berth into the final after recording
victories against their respective rivals in the Under-17 category.
Zain beat Muhammad Abid Mushtaq by 5-7 (6-6), 4-6, 6-4, Waqas Malik
beat Imran Shoukat beat by 1-6, 6-4 and 6-4.
In the Men's doubles Tanvir Ashiq and Yasir beat Irfanullah and
Shehzad Fazal of PAF in a thrilling quarter-final by 3-6, 6-2, 7-6
