KPT, Afghan FC, Army register wins in Pakistan Premier Soccer League

LAHORE Khan Research Laboratories (KRL)
missed a chance to get a place at the top of Pakistan Premier
Soccer League 2008 when their star forward line flopped
against spirited Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and suffered 1-2
defeat at KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi on Saturday.
According to information made available here, PTV suffered
yet another defeat when they wasted first half lead and
conceded hat-trick in second session in 1-3 defeat against
Afghan FC at PSB Ground, Islamabad. Army hammered goals in
both halves to beat KESC 2-0 at Army Stadium, Rawalpindi.
KPT leapt to second position in 14-team table with 2-1
win over other pace-setters KRL. Muhammad Essa-led outfit had
to blame themselves for defeat as their front-runners failed
to capitalize on chances while the Portmen utilized two
chances in both sessions. Skipper Naseer Ahmed opened the
scoring in the 28th minute as KPT were 1-0 up at interval.
Muhammad Ismail put the issue beyond home team with 71st
minute goal. It was Ismail's first goal of the event becoming
120th player to score atleast a goal in the ongoing show.
Disjointed KRL struck consolation goal in the final minute
through their former skipper and stopper Saeed. League-leader
KRL grabbed 45 points from 23 encounters while KPT managed 44
points from 25 matches.
The hero in PTV-Afghan FC clash was Chaman-born
international striker Jadeed Khan who turned the tide within
15 minutes in second half after skipper Naimat Ullah's 24th
minute goal was carrying PTV to their second win. Jadeed drew
level in the 61st minute and added two more in the 67th and
76th minute, giving Afghan handsome 3-1 triumph. Both the
teams completed 23 matches who started the game as two bottom
teams. Afghan secured 26 points as compared to
already-relegated PTV (5 pts).
Army recorded authoritative 2-0 win over KESC giving no
chance to break through their tight defence. Striker Adnan
Bari, who represented Pakistan u21 team in Beijing Olympics
Qualifiers, surged Army into well-deserved lead in the 21st
minute with his second goal of the event while defender Tanvir
Shahid doubled the margin in the 60th minute. Both the goals
were spectacular giving KESC's keeper Omar Farooq no chance.
Army collected 43 points from 22 matches while KESC
registered 29 points from 24 outings.
Sunday's fixture: PEL v HBL (Railway Stadium Lahore at 2:00 p.m.).
