NEW DELHI: Shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, Kashmiri youths took to the streets in Srinagar and other cities of occupied Kashmir on Sunday to protest against arrest of JKLF chief Yasin Malik under draconian law of Public Safety Act.
Kashmir authorities have slapped the Public Safety Act on JKLF leader Mohammad Yasin Malik on Saturday, who was arrested on October 23 for taking part in anti-poll campaign.
Over a dozen Hurriyat leaders including Shabir Shah, G N Sumji, Naeem Khan, Nisar Rather, Asiya Indrabi, Hakeem Abdul Rashid, G M Hubi, G M Khan Sopori and Maulvi Shaukat Ahmad Shah had already been arrested under the same act.
The youths demonstrated at Saraf Kadal, Rajouri Kadal, Nowhatta, Bohrikadal and adjoining areas of Jamia Masjid, media reports quoting sources said.
The life paralysed in Srinagar following demonstrations and security forces used force to disperse the crowd.
The situation is very tense in IHK ahead of seven-phase elections starting from November 17.
