FGA elects Lt. Gen. Muhammad Masood Aslam as President

PESHAWAR: Corps Commander Peshawar Lt. Gen. Muhammad Masood Aslam and Major (Retd.) Arshad Friday were unanimously elected President and Secretary, respectively, of the Frontier Golf Association (FGA) in an election held here at the Corps Headquarters.

Besides a nominee of the NWFP Olympic Association Syed Azhar Ali, the election meeting was also attended by the President and Secretaries of the golf clubs from all across NWFP comprising Doda Golf Club Kohat, Nowshera Golf Club, Kabal Golf Club Swat, Mardan Golf Club, Risalpur Golf Club, Abbottabad Golf Club and Peshawar Golf Club.

Lt. Gen. Muhammad Masood Aslam was elected unanimously as President while known golfer Major (Retd.) Arshad, who was also advisor to the President of Pakistan Golf Federation for NWFP, was elected as Secretary.

Corps Commander Peshawar Lt. Gen. Muhammad Masood Aslam thanked the house for reposing confidence in him. He said that efforts will continue for the promotion of golf in NWFP in particular and other sports in general.

He said that NWFP has been neglected as far as sports activities are concerned.

“We have plans in mind to have more and more activities because on one hand it would help us to indulge the youth in healthy activities and on the other assisting in developing a soft image of the province,” he said.

He said that the forthcoming Provincial Games would cast positive impact on the overall law and order situation. He also directed the clubs representatives to organize activities for the youth in their respective areas and all possible help would be provided to them on behalf of the Frontier Golf Association.

While explaining the plans, Lt. Gen. Muhammad Masood Aslam disclosed that necessary steps would be initiated shortly for holding training and coaching camps for the youth between the age 10-16 so that to popularize the game besides providing them basic training and coaching to the under qualified coaches.

The coach for this purpose will be of international repute, he said as it

was earlier done by FGA by taking the services of Faisal Qureshi, an Indian coach

where 60 kids (boys & girls) were trained and now they are in the pipe line for the major competitions.

“We will decide similar kind of coaching and training for the kids,” he added.

Lt. Gen Muhammad Masood Aslam said that President PGA would be taken on board for initiating two more events one at Abbottabad Golf Club, which is picturesque course and the other has already been re-started here at Peshawar Golf Course with the name of 11 Corps Commander Golf Cup. The ABL, he said, has already agreed to have the event on regular basis so with the addition of two more golfing events would also help us in promoting the golf besides attracting golfers from other part of the country to come here and participate.

The other office-bearers elected for the next four years term from
(2008-2012) were Air Vice Marshal Faaiz Amir (Senior Vice President), Brig.Muzaffar Ali Khan (Vice President) and Arbab Muhammad Om.
