SYDNEY: A Prime Minister's XI will
play New Zealand in a one-day match in Canberra on January
29, 2009, Cricket Australia said Monday.
It will be the 26th Prime Minster's XI match played
at Canberra's Manuka Oval against touring teams and the fourth time
that the PM's XI has taken on New Zealand, CA said.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, whose government was elected
in November last year, said he is keen for his first win after his
side went down to Sri Lanka last January with Australian leg-spinner Cameron White at the helm.
“Over the years the game has been famous for affording many young
Australian cricketers with their first opportunity to represent
their country,” Rudd said in a statement.
“It has also served as a chance to honour some of the greats
to have donned the Baggy Green (Australian cap).”
