LONDON: Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Wednesday that Pakistan was a sovereign state that would not come under pressure.
The interior minister made these comments during his talk with the media in London. Ahsan Iqbal said that no other country in the world had rendered as many sacrifices in the war against terrorism as Pakistan had.
Ahsan Iqbal also lashed out at countries that were accusing Pakistan of terrorism and gave a clear message to the international community that the country was committed in fighting terrorism.
In response to a question, he said that the British government had assured him that Pakistanis living in the United Kingdom would not be subjected to discrimination.
The interior minister also showered praise on former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, stating that it was due to his efforts that the civil and military institutions of the country were on the same page.
Ahsan Iqbal also lashed out at the PTI, claiming that the Lodhran loss was evidence in itself that the people had thrown their support behind Nawaz Sharif.
“A constituency in which PTI had won in 2015 with a lead of over 35,000 votes. Now they lost by a margin of over 25,000 votes,” he said.
Earlier, Ahsan Iqbal met with UK’s Minister of State for Commonwealth & UN Mr. Lord Tariq Ahmad -discussions were undertaken on how to enhance the role of Commonwealth.
Ahsan Iqbal said that the current growth rate of Pakistan was 5.3% and it was expected to rise to 6% by the end of the fiscal year.
The interior minister said that when the current government had been elected to power, the growth rate stood at a dismal 3%.
