LAHORE: PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri met on Thursday in Lahore in the aftermath of the Model Town report coming to the fore a couple of days earlier.
Conducting a joint presser together, Tahir-ul-Qadri and Zardari both flayed the government for their alleged role in the Model Town massacre.
"Shehbaz Sharif will have to resign," said Zardari. "We will take to the streets with Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri."
Asif Zardari said that Tahir-ul-Qadri had supported democracy in every era. Zardari stated that his affiliation with Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri spanned more than a couple of years.
He said that Pakistan Peoples Party had given sacrifices for democracy in the country.
Tahir-ul-Qadri also spoke and said that the Justice Ali Baqar Najafi report had blamed Rana Sanaullah and Shehbaz Sharif for the Model Town massacre.
"A trial should be conducted after resignations of Shehbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah have been obtained," he demanded.
As an important meeting between the two party heads took place in Lahore, speculations were rife that an anti-PML-N alliance was underway between PPP and PAT.
Political parties, especially those opposing the government and its allies have vigorously started reaching out to each other after the Model Town report by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi was made public.
Calls for Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah to resign have increased after the report pointed out some contradictions between the claims made by the two personalities.
