LAHORE: According to a notification by the Punjab Government, the residence of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been accorded the status of the Chief Minister Camp Office.

As per the notification issued by the provincial government, the Jati Umra residence of Nawaz Sharif will be his younger brother and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif's camp office.

What this means is that the security, protocol and expenses of the camp office will be borne by the Government of Punjab.

Security has been doubled around Jati Umra and the party's meeting expense will also be borne by Punjab Government.

Along with the SP, 228 police officers are still deployed at Nawaz Sharif's Jati Umra residence. The residence had been granted the status of the Prime Minister House when Sharif was the country's premier.

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has verbally issued orders to stop implementation on the notification. However, the legal value of the notification remains to be challenged since it has not been revoked.

Opposition parties mainly the PTI have been critical of the VIP protocol that is being granted to the former prime minister after he was disqualified by the apex court in July in connection with the Panama Papers case.
