ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan lashed out at Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday over the latter's suggestion of a joint operation with US forces against the Haqqani group in Pakistan.

"Sovereign nations never allow other countries to conduct operations inside their territory," he said during a press conference. "Our own forces are enough to carry out an operation against militants in the country."

Nisar said that the operation should be a two-way one if the objective was to please someone.

"If an operation is conducted in Pakistan then another should also be done in Afghanistan," he said.

Nisar said that Pakistan Army was fighting a war and one should not give the perception that there were issues which could not be handled.

"If issues to exist, then the civil and military leadership should sit together to resolve them," he added.
