COAS arrives in Turkey on official visit

ANKARA: Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa arrived in Turkey on Tuesday on an official visit and met with the Turkish Chief of General Staff to discuss matters related to regional security.

According to details, the army chief paid a visit to the Ataturk Mausoleum upon his arrival and laid floral wreath to pay homage to the father of Turkish nation. He also penned down his respects on the visitor’s book.

Next he visited the Turkish Land Force Headquarters where he was greeted by General Salih Zeki Çolak, Commander Turkish Land Forces. The Pakistani army chief was given a guard of honour as well.


“At the Turkish Land Force Headquarters, COAS was briefed on the regional security situation as well as the Turkish Land Forces and their various undertakings in field of training, defence production and peace keeping operations,” read a statement of the ISPR.

In recognition of his services to promote Pakistan-Turkey relations, the army chief was awarded the Legion of Merit in a simple and graceful ceremony. The army chief dedicated the award to the Shuhada of both Pakistani and Turkish Armed Forces.

COAS called on chief of Turkish General Staff, General Hulusi Akar and discussed matters related to regional security and the role Armed Forces of both countries play towards peace and stability. The two military leaders agreed to further enhance defence cooperation in multiple fields.


The Turkish military recognised services of Pakistan Military and also stated that Pakistan played a very important role in a very volatile region.
