ISLAMABAD: Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on Tuesday withdrew his observation in the case about implementation of Article 62 and 63.
Justice Khosa heads a five-judge Supreme Court bench that is hearing petitions seeking the disqualification of the prime minister over investments made by his family members in offshore companies.
In yesterday’s hearing, the bench identified “honesty” as the real issue in the case as Justice Khosa pointed to contradictions in Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s May 2016 address to the National Assembly.
The bench was of the view that there should be a balance between satisfying the requirements of law and interpreting implementation of the disqualification law that can affect everybody.
“This case is the first of its kind… we know the gravity of a declaration by the court and its affect for both the parties, saying that someone was not honest. But we have to lay down parameters, otherwise, except for the Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq, no one will survive,” Justice Khosa had observed.
However, he withdrew his observation today, saying that he should not have expressed such views regarding the parliamentarians. Justice Khosa said “I regret my words.” – Samaa
