Jhang by-poll: Voting in PP-78 underway

JHANG: Polling for by-election in Punjab Assembly constituency PP-78 Jhang is in progresS as the government has taken strict security measures to maintain law and order during the election.

The polling, which began at 8 a.m., will continue till 5 p.m. without any break.

According to official sources here Wednesday, the seat had been vacated with the disqualification of MPA Rashda Yaqub.

Twenty five candidates, including Moulana Masroor Nawaz (Independent), Haji Azad Naser Ansari (PML-N), Sh Arfa Majeed (PTI) and Nasim Qadri (PAT), are contesting the elections.

The number of registered voters in the constituency are  216,562 include 118,687 male and 97,935 female  while 171 polling stations and 418 polling booths have been set up.

Meanwhile, the district police along with other law enforcing agencies have made tight security arrangements. --SAMAA/APP
