ISLAMABAD: Former President and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari has refused to extend his party’s support to the PML-N government facing tremendous pressure over Panama leaks, SAMAA learned.

According to reliable sources, PPP leadership has contacted Asif Ali Zardari to get his advice about the party’s stance on Panama papers, which have revealed offshore wealth of Prime Minister Sharif’s family.

The former president has directed his party to give a “tough time” to the ruling party.

Sources quoted Zardari saying that PPP cannot support the government to conceal somebody’s corruption.

“Nawaz Sharif will have to decide himself on the issue of corruption,” he said, adding that the PPP would stand by political parties if there was any threat to democracy.

“We are committed to protect democracy and democratic institutions in Pakistan,” he added.

The statement came shortly after PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan said that Prime Minister Sharif was going to London to meet Asif Ali Zardari and plead for his support.

“PPP will be in trouble if Asif Zardari decides to back Nawaz Sharif this time,” Ahsan warned. – SAMAA
