ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Saturday directed the provincial governments to pass on the benefits of substantial reduction of petroleum prices to the masses, particularly by lowering fares of transport and prices of commodities.
In a letter addressed to the chief ministers of all provinces, the Prime Minister said the federal government had provided an opportunity for public relief and the provincial governments had to ensure actual delivery of the full range of benefits to the people.
The Prime Minister said with the grace of Almighty Allah, the country was on the path of economic recovery.
“This should now translate into better relief measures for the citizens of Pakistan, ” he said.
The Prime Minister said in the past eight months, the prices of petroleum products had been reduced significantly, coupled with
substantial reduction announced on Friday (yesterday).
He said the overall decrease in petroleum prices since March 2014 was Rs 18.57, while in case of high speed diesel (HSD) and
low speed diesel (LSD), it was Rs 15.54 and Rs 16.85 respectively.
The Prime Minister said the benefits of transportation resulting from cheaper cost of petroleum products now had to be passed on to the people of the country.
He said the role of the provincial governments in this connection was crucial and the public expected reduction in fares of
urban, inter-city transport and goods transport.
He said the people expected lower prices of all commodities due to lower transport costs.
The Prime Minister asked the chief ministers to take personal interest on the issue so as to provide immediate relief to the public. – APP
