Gilani directs CMs to step up anti-polio measures

Staff ReportISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, talking notice of rising number of police cases in the country, directed provincial chief ministers to spare no efforts to contain the disease. He expressed these views while hearing an inter-provincial meeting of National Emergency Plan for Polio Eradication here on Friday. The meeting also decided to set up a National Task Force to stamp out the virus.Prime Minister himself will head the team with chief ministers as its members. Gilani admitted that polio could not be fully controlled despite several years of efforts and noted that an alarming increase had been witnessed in polio cases. He said that Bill Gates had pledged to extend full cooperation to contain the disease in Pakistan. SAMAA
