Dr Akbar Zaidi is not fan of the PTI government, or perhaps any government in the last few decades if you ask him about their political economy policies. The dyspeptic academic argues that the Imran Khan government may have inherited a problematic economy in August 2018, but it certainly didn’t get its act together in its first ten months in office. That is the tragedy. By May 2019 it was signing Pakistan’s 21st bailout, of $6b, with the IMF since 1950.Listen to this excerpt of his analysis during a two-hour panel discussion on IMF & the Economic Future of Pakistan that took place on Sunday, June 2, at Karachi’s T2F. It was moderated by Dawn’s Khurram Husain and included former finance minister Asad Umar and economist Kaiser Bengali.Listen to Kaiser Bengali’s contribution in this separate audio edit here: Pakistan and the IMF: ‘We are being blackmailed’
No he is wrong, the problem did not start with this gov, it started with caretaker gov, which devalued rupee to 20Rs during election.
It is shameful that Nawaz Sharif played dirty politics with country for his personal gains. He knew Rupee was getting weaker, but his gov made such laws in in its last days that this economy should fall with next gov.
For eg he increased min 4 lack taxable salery income to 12 lack. So, that next gov can’t collect any tax. And treasury remain empty.
For me it seems that dr Akbar zaidi is not analyzing rather tarnishing the image of IK government. He may have some hidden agenda..secong explanation by Dr Qaiser Bengali is an analysis putting the facts one by one and making people understand. Whereas dr Akbar zaidi started his words with venomous style..I heard him first time but it was not neu5hence didn,t appeal.
Akbar Zaidi isn’t convincing at all… He seems an hostage of academic paradigm in which he educated, with little understanding of history, particularly the transition phase.
What more can one expect from a selected PM & PTI. They lack vision, wisdom & direction. Now the nation has been left to suffer miserably. Thanks to our establishment for selecting such incompetent party.
The previous governments who didn’t lack wisdom and direction according to you left the country on the verge of bankruptcy while their offsprings enjoy lives of unprecedented luxury at the expense of Pakistan.
Political rivals never cushion each other and therefore no excuse for present setup of its 10 months performance, especially when you dramatically withdrew the financial team accepting the defeat.
(2 quotes for the occasion)
1) Face reality as it is, not as it was or as you wish it to be.
2) If the people cannot trust their government to do the job for which it exists – to protect them and to promote their common welfare – all else is lost.
People here blames previous government for every thing to support PTI some how they ignore the fact that the same people they blame are in the same position they were with the governments that failed the economy. let’s accept the fact that PTI is not able to run the government as it was thinking it could.
A selected PM who has no intellectual capacity and now at the twilight of his life can’t fool anymore. The quicker this naya pakistan nightmare is over is better.
These two economists are gems. Unfortunately, the country does not value them, partly because the country does not deserve this high level of intellect.

Pti govt should approach in august 2018to the imf and not degrade the pakistan economy to outside countries as we have enemies on eastern border
Thanks
Hunfered prrcent right
This economist is far away from reality and merely dancing on media tunes. Media wants negative portrayal. Negativity sells

Not easy to govern. PTI lacks policies and experience.
