It is always very confusing to decide whether to visit a place that has mixed reviews or not. I’m always tempted by new cuisines in Karachi with a distinct cuisine but all that holds me back from taking risk are the negative comments about it.
Paramount a Canadian franchise, opened near sea view, Clifton, next to café Clifton was on my top list of middle eastern cuisine until I heard inconsistent reviews of the place. However, I haven’t ever been more misguided about any place but this one. To all those who find this place over priced and over rated, you are highly mistaken because their food, service and ambiance is totally worth every penny.
The success of this place is that the tables are always occupied, customers are constantly walking in and out of the restaurant, which means that you need to make a reservation beforehand. The staff and management is highly commendable as they gave us the choice of selecting the appropriate table for our family and kept us attended till we got our table.
Believe it or not, there was not a single table that wasn’t enjoying their food. As we were heading towards our table I was peeking in to other peoples’ dishes, which seemed absolutely beautiful and delectable.
Finally, we got to start our dinner off with a bowl of heavenly lentil soup. If you’re on a diet and want to have something light and delicious then this soup is just the right choice for you. Juxtaposition of lentils with light chicken stock, celery and carrots gives this soup a very balanced flavor. Its served with lemon and fried pita chips that adds a crispy element to the soup.
Since there were five adults and one child, we ordered large Saj wraps and Mix combo platter. Saj is like a shawarma roll wrapped in Arabic bread with a choice of meat, served with fries, tahini and garlic sauce. Overall quiet a decent and uncomplicated dish, something one would order as a quick bite.
Mix combo platter, is so far one of the best Lebanese platter I have ever had, each and every component on that platter was out of this ordinary. Not even the legit platters could be more legit than this one. The amount of variety on the platter is phenomenal, you end up deciding what to eat first. The accompanying Fattoush salad, rice, fries and humus was so fresh and tasty that it we completely wiped it off. The mixed platter consisted of chicken and beef shawarma, two kafta skewers, two shish tawouk skewers, two BBQ beef skewers and four falafel pieces, served with tahini and garlic sauce.
The entire experience at Paramount was amazing, especially their lentil soup and shish tawouq were the winner items out of all. Their Shish tawouq is succulent pieces of melt in the mouth char-grilled chicken served with their ultimate garlic sauce. These two items are something I will definitely go back for.
